As a continuation of the FUSHA family’s trading tradition, in 1963, when Prizren did not yet have private stores, the first store for selling fruits and vegetables was opened. This was a significant step in the development of trade in the region and began a long tradition of the FUSHA family’s business.
On November 28, 1988, in the early days of the free market opening in former Socialist Yugoslavia, brothers Adnan, Irfan, and Bari Fusha founded the Trading and Manufacturing Enterprise “ABI.” This was a crucial step in establishing the first supermarket in the Prizren region and marked the beginning of a new chapter in the retail sector.
In addition to opening the supermarket, “ABI” also developed wholesale trade with the opening of the first warehouse for food items. The company became a representative of many manufacturing enterprises from Yugoslavia and other countries, particularly from Turkey. The wholesale trade activity significantly increased after 1999, contributing to the growth of the local economy.
In 1996, “ABI” took over the Dairy Industry in Prizren, an industry on the brink of collapse. With great commitment and significant investments, “ABI” revitalized this industry, developing it to the extent that today it is an important pillar of dairy processing in Kosovo. Products from this industry, such as Sharri cheese, white cheese, kachkaval cheese, butter, yogurt, and ayran, are present on every Kosovar table.
In 2001, in collaboration with “ELIF 19,” “ABI” commercialized the former Fruit and Vegetable Processing Factory “PROGRES” in Prizren. The factory has the capacity to process about 9,000 tons of fruits and vegetables per year and a freezing capacity of 5,000 tons. Products such as salads, pickles, jams, and compotes are sold in Kosovo and exported to North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, and England. During the summer season, up to 500 additional workers are employed to support production.
For its achievements, “ABI-ELIF 19 PROGRES” was named the Most Successful Company in Kosovo by the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 2002, and in 2006, it was recognized as the second-largest exporter in Kosovo. Note: “ABI Progres” is a company registered separately from “ABI” Sh.P.K., and is not a part of “ABI” Sh.P.K. in the registration certificate.
In 2005, “ABI” privatized the former “KOMUNA” shoe factory in Prizren, which has an area of about 27,000 m² and is located in the city center. After renovating part of it, at the end of 2006, the Shopping Center “ABI Center” was opened, also known as “The Beauty of Prizren.” With a closed retail area of about 8,000 m², closed warehouses of about 3,000 m², and parking for 500 vehicles, “ABI Center” is one of the largest shopping centers in Kosovo.
In January 2013, “ABI” added a new unit, the “ABI Plus” Supermarket, with an area of 1,050 m², which also includes the “ABI Plus” Restaurant with around 50 employees. Additionally, in 2013, “Hotel ABI” was opened, a hospitality facility with 23 rooms and other ancillary areas, such as a restaurant and meeting rooms. This hotel contributed to increasing Prizren’s hotel capacities and developing tourism in the city.
At the end of 2014, “ABI” opened “ABI Bakery,” which began supplying the “ABI Center” and “ABI Plus” supermarkets with superior quality bread and pastry products. In July 2016, the “ABI Store” supermarket was also opened in Prizren, featuring a supermarket and restaurant with a children’s play area. This complex has become a significant destination for shopping and dining in the city.
At the beginning of 2018, after two years of efforts, “ABI Çarshia” was opened, the largest open-air shopping center in Kosovo and the region. With around 90 stores and 1,000 new jobs, this complex has become an important commercial center and an attraction for visitors from Kosovo and the region.
In 2019, “ABI” expanded its activities with the opening of “ABIGreen Hotel” in Prevallë, a location in the heart of the Sharr Mountains National Park. The hotel offers a rich environment with various climates that help improve health and provides many activities, including a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, fitness center, cinema, and a children’s play area.
In 2022, after the demolition of “Hotel ABI” in Prizren, construction began on the unique business-residential complex “ABI Platinum Residence,” which includes 6 residential buildings and 554 luxury apartments with eco-friendly systems and modern design.
